Coming out strong like a well-oiled machine, Germany’s Wojczech pummels out three solid tracks of heavyweight metallic grindcore on this split with Stoke-on-Trent, UK’s Krupskaya.

Wojczech have been around since 1995 and this is like the 17th split in their impressive discography! With such an experience, these veterans know how to make grindcore sound more mature. Their side of the split has this bleak, desperate and almost epic slab of sound. Besides the relentless battering of the drums, Discordance Axis-like chord progressions and classic shrieking & growling vocals they are known for, there are also some slower and crustier parts reminiscent to bands like Martyrdöd. Well, this might not be exactly the straight-up, ultra-short and blasting grind that you might be looking for, but I’m sure most of you will not complain about it either.

While Wojczech’s side concludes with the intense “Stunde des Wolfes” descending into a prolonged doomy ending, Krupskaya’s side of the split begins with some blackened, droning parts that burst into vicious blastbeat assaults and high-pitched vocals on “Frozen Bodies Against The Wire”, a track that extends into the remarkable 5:47 minutes. Coming up next we have “A Dawn Of Shattered Silence” and “Theosophical Separation Of Earth” that are both razorsharp, dissonant, earsplitting grindcore bludgeons following much noisier path compared to their German counterparts. And then we have the closing track, “Skin Of The Cruciform To Ash,” that also incorporates some drone and ambient atmosphere into the mix to make things more bleak and dramatic. This band have always tried to capture a certain aesthetic with all their sound, lyrics and artwork, so they are already well known for this winning and formidable formula. Krupskaya is definitely a top-notch European grindcore band and their side of the split is a must-listen. Technical grindcore at its finest that is sure to leave your ears ringing.
